What Can We Do To Save New Zealand Shores

Saving New Zealand Shores – YES WE CAN!

A lot of you may have seen the most heartbreaking news on Monday 26/11 where whales stranding happened in Stewart Island. 145 whales died from this! At the same day, more stranded on Northland too.

More than ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE! I felt drowned and speechless for the rest of the day, whales are probably the living unicorns on earth and it is surely my favourite mammal after dogs.

Luckily, we live in a country full of ‘humanity power’ and love, so we get to see news like volunteers and organisations were called and gathered to help.

I have been an enthusiast on ocean life saving and de-plastic in particular myself that I have been trying to search information from time to time, to see what ‘I’ can do. The fact is, WE can all contribute to our beautiful NZ environment, not talking about big things like doing lab tests and saving whales maybe, but we can definitely start small like using less plastic whenever possible.

So I am going to share some goodies that I use to make my contribution on de-plastic.

 Reusable Grocery Shopping Trolley Bag

These Trolley Bags are AWESOME! I actually brought 2 sets so I could keep one extra set in the car. They could be stored into a roll and simply bring it along when you head out to your local supermarket, chuck these into shopping trolley to help you categorise your groceries. It comes in 4 different sizes and colour as a set to fit most shopping trolleys.

Foldable Reusable Bags Eco Grocery Shopping Bags

I do feel this extra purchase on top of the trolley bags are necessary, mostly because trolley bags are quite big for me, they show their magic the best when doing supermarket shopping. Other times (which are a lot of times) when shopping for clothes or even a quick stop-by at your local dairy, you need these Reusable Shopping Bags with handles. The whole set comes with 5 bags in different patterns, so I would normally keep 1 or 2 in my purse while keep the rest in my car. They are so handy that you could fold them after each use into a palm size, I would totally rate 5/5 for the practicality.

Fabric Pot Planter Grow Bags

Choose Fabric Grow Bags instead of plastic pots would be a great idea. These grow bags not only give your garden and indoor a fresh new look and also it provides better water drainage, allowing enhanced root development of your plants.

Luggage Organiser Travel Pouches

I never stop buying them after getting my very first set of these Travel Organisers because they are soooo handy!  Full set comes in 6 pouches varies in sizes to store away different things. I found myself needed 2 sets worth for bringing something like worn shoes, one extra large pouch for laundry and one pouch for toiletries.

Foldable Solar Panel Charger

Try to choose Solar Charger instead of regular portable chargers, much more energy saving and also consumes nothing on your electric bill, so why not? At least bring it along with you on your next camp or to somewhere in nature where you don’t get electricity and discover its beauty!

ToughOut Greenhouse

Okay…I didn’t own this but my friend’s parents do. That’s right, grow your own veggies! If you can of course… people who have time and space for these Greenhouses can start growing your own greens. Too many advantages to talk about on how safe and healthy on home grown veges and so on, but one thing for sure, it helps on reducing soft plastic packaging that you get from supermarket vegetables.

I could really go on and on, but do you see the tricks now? Replace single-use plastics as much as you can. Say no to soft plastic packaging whenever it is possible. Choose solar powered items instead of electricity-consuming gadgets.

Nothing you do is considered too small and it is okay to buy plastic products or to use regular plastic bags, just always try to reduce the chances of using them, that’s what I always encourage people to do as starter.

Last but not least, if you think this is the right thing to do, then mask all the noises that tells you to go the other way, smile to people who gave you the weird look and stay determined!    ❤❤❤

Gazebo NZ Buying Guide – FAQs on ToughOut Gazebos

FAQs on ToughOut Gazebos

ToughOut Gazebos

Get ready for 2018 summer – the most exiting season of the year. It may not be the most beautiful season for New Zealand, but I am sure this is the best season to go out there!

This is the 5th year we brought in these awesome ToughOut gazebos NZ and we tend to have something new every year, with past years we’ve got more and more fantastic feedback and our team got to know them more, so here we are, summarised on the most frequently asked questions for you.

Q: WHEN do I need a gazebo?

A: When you know there is an expecting event coming up! Whether it is outdoor barbecues, a game on the field, merchandising on markets or even beside your camping.

2016 Xmas BBQ Event
Food Market Merchant
Meat Stock Competition
Merchant @ Sylvia Park
Staff Xmas Event 2017

I have soooo many more pictures to show you but this post wouldn’t fit!

Team TreasureBox has been using these awesome gazebos lots of times now and we brought it to our staff event all the time.

Q: WHY ToughOut Gazebo?

A: For its easy set up pop up design, absolutely no installation on frame structure needed. Simply expand and erect when you need it. No tools required.

Q: What is the difference between Breeze and Thunderstorm models?

A: We’d like to look at Thunderstorm model as the upgraded version of Breeze model in general – it is made to be tougher by thicker and heavier materials.

Q: Which ToughOut gazebo model series shall I go with?

A: We would first suggest you to think about purpose – what are you going to do with a gazebo?

Breeze is designed for short term use in general, as it is cheaper than renting a gazebo just for a weekend. It would be the best choice if you have a function or outdoor event coming up that is not ongoing regularly.

The thin material used is not necessarily a bad thing, as it becomes the most cost-effective choice. Light weight would make it much easier when it comes to transport and of course cut on transport cost.

Thunderstorm on the other hand allows for more regular and longer use.

This summer, we brought in new model of Zephyr – which it is specifically designed for people who intent to set up a gazebo on their own! Best example would be for those of you who are the stall merchants in farmers market in the weekends and work on your own without any help. This is when you want to choose Zephyr model where it is light, it is much easier to pop up for single person set up and it comes with a carry bag!

Q: What does a ToughOut Gazebo comes with?

A: All ToughOut Gazebos comes with a pop-up metal steel frame, a gazebo canopy and a 3-sided wall that is one single piece wraps around the frame.

Q: How about gazebo accessories?

A: Yes we have now got most of everything you need to set up a gazebo, check out for our range of gazebo accessories.

Q: Do ToughOut Gazebos come with warranty?

A: Yes for sure! Breeze and Zephyr gazebo models carry 6 months warranty while Thunderstorm gazebo models carry 12 months warranty.

But do note though, wind damage is unfortunately not covered under warranty.

Q: How could wind damage to gazebos happen?

A: We’d like to call it a ‘parachute effect” as the gazebo canopy does not have a vent, therefore when gusts strikes, the force would naturally push gazebo upwards and even a pegged gazebo could be pulled straight out.

So by considering your safety and others, anything loose or could potentially be loose should be removed on a windy day, even it started light and seems harmless.

The next best option would be to always put as much weight onto your gazebo as possible, and this should be evenly distributed especially on four corners.

Q: How do I make sure my gazebo setup is just right?

A: Always! ALWAYS remember not to leave your gazebo outdoor unattended or even overnight, especially when it is without any anchoring.

Secure your gazebo and canopy with weights – as strong gusts can come up without warning anywhere at anytime.

Oh and how important it is to set up your gazebo properly? Well…this one tells you all about it….

Outdoor Furniture Buying Guide – Pros and Cons on Steel

BetaLife Outdoor Furniture – Pros and Cons on Steel

Although I should probably be posting on the 2018 summer new styles that we got in just last week on these awesome BetaLife Outdoor Furniture, but I got countless times on the question asked by our Customer Service ladies:

“Why does our outdoor furniture framing needs to be steel? Why don’t we use other material like aluminium or plastic even?”

I am always aware these questions don’t just came from nowhere (although it could be random sometimes XD) but mostly would be voices from our customers, so I decided to share a little info on these steel framing first.

Because synthetic rattan furniture don’t really come with plastic or wood material – and you probably don’t want to see these combinations anyway, so I am going to rule these out and to focus on steel and aluminium for example.

PROS

  • Using steel is strong and sturdy, and it can withhold higher temperature.
  • Less likely to change in shape with force and less bendy when comparing to aluminium
  • Being heavy – this could really be both pros and cons, good thing about being heavier would help on weighing itself into the spot with a degree of wind.
  • Most affordable – steel outdoor furniture can be much more cost effective than aluminium which this is the main reason we brought in BetaLife Outdoor Furniture, we want to make it possible for everyone to own a beautiful set of these at your yard.

CONS

  • Prone to rust – This would probably be the only cons in my mind and could be an issue to people especially around coastal area.

At the end, being an outdoor furniture does not 100% means you could just leave them out there and expect it to last for decades. Whichever the outdoor furniture material you have, you need to take some time to know what it really is and how it is going to cope with your living environment. ie: If you live in a coastal zone, you would want to consider a more costy aluminium outdoor furniture set.

Natural material such as wood and wicker would be even harder to maintain even though they are made to be placed outdoors.

Just keep in mind always that everything will need a certain degree on maintenance, even for rust-free aluminium frames, you still would have to wax them annually, dust them or clean them from time to time. For steel framed outdoor furniture like the ones from BetaLife would need more attention yes, but think about the affordability then everything would still be worth it.

I always like to mention that nothing would really last, especially in NZ weather – very moist and lots of rain during winter and sizzling hot summer sun. Even when people tell you it is okay because it is UV treated and all sorts, but still we would always recommend to cover it up with outdoor furniture cover whenever something is not in use. Your BBQ stove, your empty pet cage, outdoor fire pit and definitely your wonderful set of outdoor furniture.

Don’t be surprise to see our display unit BetaLife Rattan Outdoor Sofa 4PCS Set (#21409) being covered up when you visit us, simply ask our receptionist to reveal it for you.

How to Assemble Dog Kennel- Roof Assemble Tips

How to Assemble Dog Kennel- Roof Assemble Tips

From dog kennel installation post we walked through some tips on how to set up a BINGO chain link dog kennel run, but we stopped at the part where we thought everything is all good to go. It indeed was on that bright and sunny afternoon.

About 2 weeks later, on a Monday morning after a weekend of rain and storm,  I came to our site only to find this:

Almost immediately, I figured it was the issues we’ve had from the stories I heard from Customer Service Team!

“The water pooling on top of the dog run roof and weigh the cover down!”

On top of mind, a few comments over the years even mentioned this tremendous weight eventually made the roof collapse.

Does this sound like the problem or issue you are getting? Then you will be surprised on how easy to fix this!

All I did was took a close look and found this was because the elastic loops wasn’t being tied ‘further down’ enough.

I tied these elastic ties about 1 grid down since I was sure it should not be too much further downwards to risk the rip and tear of fabric around the metal rings.

You want to stretch flat on the tarp enough to stop water pooling, so when it rains, the water would just run down on both sides along the sloped tarp.

At the time, I just thought: Hmmmm, let’s see how this goes.  And walked away, completely had this out of my mind.

It is about another 2 -3 weeks now and I am happy to announce: IT WORKED!

We’ve had a rough week with the wind and occasional rain, a couple of heavy rain during the week and strong wind.

At the end, all it happened was how the strong wind blown the Dog Run and moved it a bit – this is because the only spot we could display these large outdoor products was on our open grass ground, while nothing should really be installed in open area though considering about safety when it comes to residential areas.

So please do get your BINGO Dog Run anchored to the ground if you ever need to and by this shared tip, you should no longer get water pooling.

At least it did not happen at all ever since!

2018 XMAS SALE NOW ON!!

Every year, we held our most important event of the year – ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SALE!

I think this has now become a TreasureBox tradition and our beloved loyal customers would enquire about this at around October – which is a great reminder on how Xmas is just around the corner.

This year, it is surely a massive storewide sale and let me tell you, you really would want to shop earlier than later for few reasons:

1.  It would be guaranteed stock – yes stock number limits! Don’t make me mention on the lines where we only bring them in during summer. So there are stuff that is kinda limited edition in some way.

2. You want to be ready! And you want to manage your budget. If you leave everything at the very end, you might face the situation where you have no choice but you just have to buy what you can get!

3. If you don’t live in Auckland where our pickup centre is, then this is particularly important for you – what if courier and freight be late? This is no longer a surprise as we get quite a few disappointed customers every year. At TreasureBox, our team knows not to disappoint our beloved customers and we would normally be running around between colleagues so we could prioritise dispatch. So although we could help on getting your order out from our warehouse, but we don’t have control beyond this point and this happen to be something people miss on.

4. It’s a STOREWIDE sale! Everything is on discount so what are you waiting for anyways?!

How to Assemble Dog Kennel- Assemble Tips

How to Assemble Dog Kennel- Assemble Tips

BINGO Dog Run Kennel 2.3x2.3x1.2m with Roof

Our team has been waited sooo lonnnng for this day – to actually assemble a BINGO Dog Run and to see how it is.

We have been getting quite a bit enquiries on assembly or on the parts and details, but it made it difficult sometimes for our team not being able to go and check on one whenever we need to. Now we finally got a chance to! Yay!

I have been observing the ‘construction’ progress and wooo that was something amazing to me, given I am seriously bad at DIYs myself.

So by thinking about there might be others like me out there, wanting to get one of these handy runs but just anxious about installations, I think I might be able to help a little by pointing out some tips.

1. Start with base -> Support vertical poles -> Complete frame -> Netting

Building on the frame would be rather straight forward and I think the hardest part at this point, is the ‘adjusting’ part as you see there are many adjustable points such as how much gap you wish to leave by adjusting the height of gate; and where exactly do you need your auto lock to be installed.

2. Expanding & tidying chain link mesh

It’s not a surprise the mesh comes in separate roll and this would be the step when things could go wrong from the stories I’ve heard from our Customer Services Team. It is important to have extreme patience at this step – and believe it or not, this would be the best advise! I got driven mad just by watching this process on the side you see!

Just remember, take it really slow and gentle, do NOT ever apply force or to pull the mesh. Otherwise you will definitely end up with tangled mess and those chained grids change their shapes and no longer being squary – and you are going to spend much more time on fixing it.

Then I talked to my colleague about this, and he said if you have experience in these by working with mesh before then most likely you’ll be fine, because ALL chain link mesh works like this.

I am going to share maybe a few videos once we have them available on our Youtube link to show you on some common problems you may overcome while working with these chain link mesh.

3.  Go into details

This is when you have most of the structure completed and it is now time to work on details including gate locks final adjustments and mesh adjustments.

I’ve pointed out a few points on below image:

The round circled area represents hooks and lock. The bottom rectangular area is the part where you could decide how much gap you want to leave.

Locks are just about where do you want it to be and work on height.

Chain link adjustments on the other hand would be a bit more challenging – you need a hand to help you on pulling the whole sheet of mesh so they are nice and tight. This is a step where you might thought: Oh no! It is not long enough to cover the whole frame.

Think twice, because we’ve found this is most likely due to your mesh wasn’t pulled further and tight enough. At the end, use the hooks supplied and set the mesh into places.

Use the metal ties to fix both top and bottom of mesh onto the Dog Run frame. Tip: Try to leave the ties facing outwards not inwards where your pet might accidentally getting hurt by the ties.

4. Roof frame installation

Well if your model doesn’t come with a roof then you are pretty much done now. Otherwise follow the steps and get the roof installed.

The only tip at this step is to install pole 7+8 first and adjust pole 5+6 and yes it is a 2-men job.

5. Canopy tarp

We put on the tarp as advised from the instructions but just for the heads up it wasn’t enough.

I am going to briefly explain dog kennel roof assembly as we didn’t realise this tip until 2 weeks later.

Anyways!!! YAY! If you are interested and wanting to check Bingo Dog Run out before placing your order – pop in to see TreasureBox as you could do both on site now!
